Every donation, no matter the size, quickly adds up to mean real changes for a family in need for simple decent shelter .
Habitat builds houses for applicants who demonstrate need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. The family is required to work on their own house or other Habitat houses. Once the family has moved into the home, they begin making mortgage payments which include taxes and insurance, but no interest. This makes the payments more affordable to those who could not otherwise purchase their own home.
This is a regional project. Habitat has already built homes for over 68 families including two houses in Roanoke and Wedowee Alabama our newest service area, and plans to build in other parts of the county as community support demonstrates.
During construction there is a great need for skilled and non-skilled workers. In addition to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, drywall, and painting, people will be needed to move materials around, clean up, assemble pieces for the carpenters, install insulation, go pick up materials, contact volunteers about scheduling, sit at the volunteer sign-in table, encourage potential donors, and provide lunch for the workers. Gifts of money, sponsorship, materials, gift in kind or services would also be greatly appreciated.
